Modern Day Beowulf

In the Battle with Grendel, a specific hero arises. Beowulf is sent to save everyone from the terrible beast Grendel. Once Beowulf does finally destroy Grendel he realizes that his problems do not go away. Actually more problems arise when he does slay the beast. Grendel's mother comes back to avenge the death of her son. Now Beowulf is faced with the challenge to slay yet another beast. I think that Beowulf felt that it was his obligation to rid the people of this beast. Once something like this is done, more problems arise.
An example of a modern day Beowulf would be the United States. I feel that the United States is always trying to jump in and save the world's problems. When in all reality we are just one country. We cannot defeat all of the "beasts and monsters" of the world. The reason for Beowulf's defeat in the end is because he has no idea how to say no! He seems to think that he is this invincible person and he cannot fail. When in all reality, he is just a human being. Human beings are not perfect, we are not flawless. Therefore, we cannot do everything and anything. I feel like the United States feels like we are this invincible nation and we have all the power and that is far from the truth. Sometimes, we need to know when to step back and allow other countries to solve their own issues. We do not always have to play the police! That is why I think that the United states is an example of a modern day Beowulf.
