Extra credit three minute fiction

Waiting in the ER….

After calling his parents we rode in a somber silence to the emergency room. What do you say to someone you’d never met before that you’d just seen attacked? I never even learned his name.
When we arrived at the hospital most of his cuts had been stitched up and all that was left was X-Rays and Cat-scans.
“Do you still want me to wait with you?” I asked with a yawn. He turned his head slightly to glance at me,
“Of course, you saved my life!” he shouted catching the attention of the doctors.
“Is everything alright in here?” a concerned nurse asked while taking blood from the boy. we both nodded silently.
“I’ll be right back Cameron with your test results, try not to move around too much!” the nurse ordered and briskly walked out of the room.
“Cameron huh? I was wondering all this time what your name was”. he laughed and shot back
“So, whats your name? How about I call you my saviour?”. I grinned sheepishly.
“To be honest Cameron, I didnt do much to save you! You’ve got the doctors to thank for that. But my name is Maya”. I could feel his eyes on my back while I crossed the room to pour a glass of water.
“Want some?” I called behind my shoulder.
“Sure” he breathed into my ear. I jumped at his closeness and dropped the cup of water onto the floor.
“Oh my gosh! Don’t ever do that again!” I shrieked and he burst into a fit of laughter. I couldnt keep a frown of my face at the sight of his huge grin. In a second we were both bursting with laughter and I could barely contain myself. After our laughter subsided, he gained a serious demeanor and asked
“So, when are you going to let me take you on a date Miss Maya?” he stared down at me confidently at me.

Three minute fiction

Up until recently I was very active in living the “typical High school girl” life. I lived for the trouble, scoldings, punishments, sneaking out, and staying up late with my friends. With senior year approaching rapidly, I realized that life was more than parties and friends. My grades reflected my lack of effort the first three years of highschool but I really worked hard to score high on the ACT.
On the top floor of my fathers apartment complex I could hear the city roaring. Saturday night lights and the fun had just begun without me. Staring directly out of my bedroom window I could see the never ending stream of pedestrians hopping on and off the bus. There was a constant flow of passengers on the CTA. If I wanted to, I could sit and watch that bus stop all day and feel entertained. In my mind, people are interesting to watch; facial expressions, tones of voice and the speed of their walk was all very compelling to me. At this particular hour, the sun had just begun to recede behind the clouds and the moon crept into the sky. People streamed on and off of the bus constantly. After the bus pulled off the curb, a few people lingered at the stop. One guy with smooth caramel skin and curly hair, tapped non-stop on his phone. Standing slightly behind him were two guys both wearing baggy jeans and huddling together. They appeared to be whispering about something. I thought nothing of it and replied to a text.
Suddenly I hear a loud shout and snapped my head up to look out the window. One boy was sprinting down the street glancing behind him frequently.. It took the boy a couple of seconds to realize that he had been robbed. When he did comprehend what had happened he tried to sprint after the boy who’d robbed him, but before he could the other guy with baggy jeans pulled out a heavy glass bottle and hit him over the head with it. The boy groaned and collapsed to the ground. The boy with the baggy jeans checked over his shoulders a couple of times and took off sprinting to catch up with his friend.
I was stunned. I couldn't believe what I had witnessed. I quickly scrambled off of the window seat and slipped on a pair of shoes. With my phone in my hand, I raced down the stairs taking them two at a time. I flew across the street kneeling down at the boys side. Blood was trickling down his forehead and his breath was uneven and shaky. With one hand i lifted his head onto my lap and with the other, I dialed 911 and reported the accident telling them exactly what happened. At that moment the boys eyes began to flutter open and he looked dazed and confused. Staring up at me he croaked
“Am I in heaven?”. I burst into a nervous giggle and shook my head no.
“You’ve been hurt, I called the police and an ambulance should be on its way” I started nervously. The boy had mesmerizing hazel eyes that distracted my train of thought.
“You’re very beautiful” he said nonchalantly. I couldn’t help but laugh this time.
“”You were just in an accident and you’re complimenting me!” I replied incredulously. He began to laugh as well and then we were laughing together.
“When the ambulance arrives I want you to ride with me there”

Who I am thankful for

I am thankful for a lot  of things this Thanksgiving. I am happy to be here right now. As for my class; I am thankful for Iona because Iona was the first person to talk to me in my 2nd period english class. I am so grateful for her because I didn't know anyone. I was brand new to Whitney Young and a little bit frightened.
I am also thankful for Shay because Shay is a very nice person. After seeing her in English class I realized that she was also in my history class. She is always a friendly face!

From the crown to the toe , top full of Direst cruelty

Well, I know that Lady Macbeth wished to be freed of all "womanly" qualities. She wanted to be the opposite of nurturing and lovely. Lady Macbeth wanted to be a cold hearted killer. This brings me to the point of Can a woman be a villain? Honestly I believe that women can be villains. We can be cold hearted and ruthless. These qualities are not just reserved to men just as men can be nurturing and loving. I think it was about time for someone to switch it up a bit when it came to the role of women. I completely agree with Shakespeare when it comes to Lady Macbeth.

No New Tale to tale

All of the good stories in the world usually are not that original. Maybe the author may switch up the characters, the heroin my change etc. But, the most important part of the story; the meaning or lesson is always borrowed. Their really are no new tales to tale. One can discover this in the Wife of Bath tale and the Pardoners tale. In the Wife of Bath, their is a a noble knight who commits a vicious crime against a maiden. Instead of being sentenced to death, the queen sends him on a mission  to discover what women truly want. He went around for a year asking as many women as he could this question and he got a variety of answers. When coming across a old woman he asks her for the answer and she tells him that women truly want to make their own decisions and not be subject to their husbands. By telling him this answer the old woman required that he marry her. To touch on the topic of what women want, I don't believe that their really is one definite answer to that question. Women want many things just like men. I think that gender inequality does play a huge role and that theme is timeless. Some women do wish to be equal to men, others like that typical role of a woman. I honestly don't wish to be subject to any man and I think that I am completely capable of doing the same things a man can do. I bet I could do it better as well.
In the Pardoners tale, the Pardoner tells a story of three men who find some money and completely crazy and were full of greed. The theme that Greed is the root of all evil arises and I completely agree with that. If you take the modern era for an example. Today we are all about technology and it runs and sometimes ruins our lives. People will kill one another because of what they have. This is timeless and you can find people acting the same way in Middle age Europe.

Truth

What is the truth? That question runs through Grendel's mind constantly and I cannot say that I blame him. It is quite hard to understand what is real and what is a lie in Grendel's world. His mother doesn't tell him anything so he is left alone to try and figure out the world and his place in it all alone. So of course when the Shaper comes along, preaching about his "truth" Grendel wants to believe it. The Danes in some way needed the Shaper to be there to guide and unite them as a people. I think that the message of the Shaper was not very truthful at all. The Shaper was one to tell people what they wanted to hear and that is not the truth at all.

Modern Day Beowulf

In the Battle with Grendel, a specific hero arises. Beowulf is sent to save everyone from the terrible beast Grendel. Once Beowulf does finally destroy Grendel he realizes that his problems do not go away. Actually more problems arise when he does slay the beast. Grendel's mother comes back to avenge the death of her son. Now Beowulf is faced with the challenge to slay yet another beast. I think that Beowulf felt that it was his obligation to rid the people of this beast. Once something like this is done, more problems arise.
An example of a modern day Beowulf would be the United States. I feel that the United States is always trying to jump in and save the world's problems. When in all reality we are just one country. We cannot defeat all of the "beasts and monsters" of the world. The reason for Beowulf's defeat in the end is because he has no idea how to say no! He seems to think that he is this invincible person and he cannot fail. When in all reality, he is just a human being. Human beings are not perfect, we are not flawless. Therefore, we cannot do everything and anything. I feel like the United States feels like we are this invincible nation and we have all the power and that is far from the truth. Sometimes, we need to know when to step back and allow other countries to solve their own issues. We do not always have to play the police! That is why I think that the United states is an example of a modern day Beowulf.
